Newberg girls cross country leads the area, finishing third in 6A with a 3.96 varsity team GPA

Five area varsity teams were honored as Academic All-State by the OSAA and the Dairy Farmers of Oregon after finishing in the top 10 schools in their sport and classification.

Leading the way was the Newberg girls cross-country team, which finished third in 6A with a 3.96 grade-point average.

The Tigers also placed third in the girls soccer standings for posting a 3.74 GPA.

Both of St. Paul’s fall varsity teams were recognized, with volleyball finishing fourth in 1A with a 3.83 GPA and football placing eighth at 3.29.

C.S. Lewis Academy’s volleyball team also made the top 10, coming in sixth with a 3.81 GPA.

Several other local teams were noted for finishing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

For Newberg, the football team placed 15th in 6A with a 3.10 varsity team average, with volleyball finishing 17th at 3.53, boys soccer 19th at 3.14 and boys cross-country 29th at 3.28.

The Veritas volleyball team was recognized for its 3.48 GPA, which ranked it 22nd in 1A.

Likewise, the C.S. Lewis boys soccer team, which is coed but competes in the boys division, placed 13th in 1A at 3.45.
