Park and rec district offers swim lessons
The Chehalem Aquatic and Fitness Centers popular Friday night swim lessons will begin a new five-week session this week. Classes, which run for 45 minutes with a maximum of four children per class, are offered for preschool 1-3 and level 1-6. Preregistration can be done in person at the aquatic center, by calling 503-537-2909 or visiting www.cprdnewberg. org. Cost is $46. The center is also accepting new clients for private swim lessons, which are taught in a one-on-one format and a lesson structure that is modified to meet each clients needs. Private lesson sessions run twice a week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) for either five or 10 lessons. Cost is $80 for five lessons.
GFU announces four softball camps
George Fox University will host four softball camps under the direction of head coach Jessica Hollen this summer. Two camps will be held for players ages 12 and under June 26.
The first is a hitting and pitching camp from 9 a.m. to noon, and the second is a pitching and catching camp from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The cost of the morning camp is $40 per person, and the afternoon camp is $35 per person. Players may sign up for one or both camps.
Two more camps for players ages 12 and older will be held Aug. 14-15. The first will focus on infield and outfield play and hitting, with the second concentrating on pitching, catching and hitting. Both camps will run from 9 a.m.to1 p.m. and cost $50 each per person. Players may sign up for one or both camps.
Each athlete should bring a bat, glove, helmet and catching gear appropriate for whichever camp she chooses.
The registration deadlines are June 20 and Aug. 8, respectively. Registration forms, along with a check made out to Bruin Softball, should be returned to Hollen at George Fox University, 414 N. Meridian St., Box 6147, Newberg, OR 97132.
