Registration open for Pee Wee Sports Camps
Children ages 5 to 9 will have the opportunity to sample soccer, football, hockey, tennis and other sports at either of two sessions of the Chehalem Park and Recreation Districts Pee Wee Sports Camps at the Jaquith Park tennis courts. The first session will run from June 30 to July 3, with the second scheduled for July 28-31. Campers will be introduced to these and other games while learning about teamwork, respect for themselves, and respect for others. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt. Cost is $50. GFU baseball camp registration closing
Registration for George Fox Universitys Bruin Baseball All-Skills Camp for players ages 9 to 18, which will run June 23-25, closes Friday. The camp, which will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will be directed by Bruins head coach Marty Hunter. Cost is $135 per participant, including camp insurance that provides secondary coverage. The registration form should be sent, along with a check made out to Bruin Baseball, to Marty Hunter at 1894 N. Teakwood St., Canby, OR 97013. Swim lessons available
Both small group and private swim lessons will be offered next week at the Chehalem Aquatic Center. Small Group lessons will meet in the morning, afternoon and evening June 23-27 for 30 minutes. Cost is $45. Register early and save $5 per student. Private lessons are a one-on-one teaching format and lesson structure is modified to meet each clients needs. Water polo registration still open
Summer water polo is still accepting enrollment. Practices began Monday. Practices for players in middle school run from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Monday through Thursday for five weeks at the aquatic center. High school age players will practice from 3 to 4:30 Monday through Thursday for the same period. Register in person at the Aquatic Center, online at www.cprdnewberg.org or call 503-538-7454.
Providence offers free sports physicals and heart screenings
Providence Medical Group is offering free sports physicals for players in grades 7-12 from 6 to 9 p.m. July 10 in Room 1003 on the first floor of Providence Newberg Medical Center. No appointments are needed. A sports physical, which is required to participate in interscholastic sports activities in grades 7-12, must be completed before the first day of practice and is valid for two years. Wear a loose T-shirt and shorts. General OSAA forms will be provided; if specific school/club forms are required they must be presented at time of physical. A parent or guardian must be present and sign an authorization form for children under age 15.
GFU announces volleyball camp
George Fox University will host a pair of volleyball camps in the universitys Wheeler Sports Center/Miller Gym this summer for two different age groups. The camps run Monday through Thursday, Aug. 11-14, with players entering grades 6-8 from 9 a.m. to noon and players entering grades 9-12 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. each day. The camps are under the direction of long-time George Fox volleyball coach Steve Grant, who will be assisted by other members of the coaching staff along with current members of the Bruins volleyball team.
All campers should wear volleyball shoes, shorts, T-shirts or tanks tops, and knee pads. A camp T-shirt will be provided for each participant who registers before the Aug. 4 deadline players may register after that but will not be able to get a T-shirt. Cost for the middle school camp is $90 for each camper or $70 each for multiple campers from the same family. The cost for the high school camp is $100 per camper or $80 each for multiple campers from the same family. Checks may be made out either to Steve Grant or to Bruin Volleyball Camp and returned along with the registration form to Coach Grant at George Fox University, 414 N. Meridian St., Newberg, OR 97132.
