Two record aces at Chehalem Glenn
A pair of golfers registered holes-in-one recently at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course. Duane Selser of Newberg aced hole No.13 from 80 yards out with a 9-iron on May 23. Bob Ericson, also of Newberg, aced the same hole June 6 with a pitching wedge from 99 yards.
GFU schedules youth basketball camps
The George Fox University men's basketball program will host a pair of youth camps later this year. The youth camp for players entering grades third through eighth in the fall will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 31-Aug. 3. Instruction will be provided by GFU coach Maco Hamilton, his staff and current and former college players, focusing on individual skill development. Each camper will receive a T-shirt, camp photo and certificate with a coach evaluation. Cost is $150.
The Bruins will also host an Elite Camp for high-level varsity athletes capable of playing at the collegiate level from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 24. The camp will led by the GFU staff and high school coaches with position specific individual skill development, competitive five-on-five games and collegiate-level scheme instruction and implementation. Kick off summer at the aquatic center
The Chehalem Aquatic and Fitness Center is hosting several public swim events to kick off the summer, beginning with four special school-is-out sessions Wednesday and Friday. Sessions will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. both days. The diving board, basketball, hoops, slides, Tarzan rope swing, mats and noodles will be available for use. Cost for children, students and senior citizens is $3 and $3.50 for adults.
The community is also invited to a pair of free Summer Splash public swim sessions from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. All children 8 years and younger must be accompanied in the water by an adult.
