SPHS racks up wins in Molalla
MOLALLA -- Building up a measure of confidence heading into spring break, the St. Paul track and field team won a total of 11 events March 21 at Molalla's Mid-Valley Matchup.
The Buckaroo boys picked up six of those wins in the unscored event, including a pair of victories by senior Holden Smith in the 800 (2:18.63) and 1,500 (4:42.11).
Sophomore Saul Martinez also had a solid day on the track, winning the 200 (25.59) and taking third in 400 (1:00.40). Martinez also ran a leg on the winning 4 x 100 relay team (46.97), while Smith helped the 4 x 400 squad to place first in 3:55.67.
Rounding out the effort was sophomore Alex Dela Cerda, who won the shot put with a heave of 37-feet 8-inches and took third in the javelin (111-8) just behind teammate Alfonso Orobio (111-8) in second.
Sophomore Isabelle Wyss picked up two of the St. Paul girls' five victories, crossing first in the 100 (13.35) and the long jump (15-5) to go along with a fourth-place showing in the 200 (29.41).
Emma Connor led the distance crew by winning 3,000 in 15:23.27 and was also second in the 800 (2:48.16).
Also taking home victories for the Bucks were Jackie Diaz, who won the 1,500 in (6:33.58), and Stephanie Morales, who cleared 4-6 to win the high jump.
The Bucks will return to action April 5 in a Pac-West/Tri-River Conference meet at Regis.
