Thelma Marx passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 96, on October 13, with family by her side. She was born to Rosanna Pearl and James Lester Hammond at home in Monitor, Oregon, on February 5, 1917.

Thelma graduated from Woodburn High School (she was May Queen in 1934), and received a lifetime teaching certificate from Mt. Angel College in Oregon. After graduating, she taught school in Aumsville, and married Ted W. Marx, Sr. After their children were raised, she went back to teaching at St. Agatha’s Catholic School in Sellwood, where she retired.

She is survived by her brother Marlin Hammond (Arlene), of Woodburn; and five children: Marcella Christoff of Lincoln, California; Ted W. Marx, Jr. (Marilyn) of Hubbard; Donna Lowe (Glenn) of Lake Oswego; Patty Marx of Bend; and Dorothy Pittman (Doug) of Portland – and by 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ted in 1996, after 57 years of marriage; and by her parents, five brothers – Rexall, Ronald, Harold, Howard, and Harley – by one sister, Zeta, and one great-grandson.
