Norman R. Baker

November 13, 1963 - October 18, 2013

Norman R. Baker, who was a resident of Woodstock, passed on October 18 in Gresham. Baker graduated from Grant High School in 1982, where he played the position of soccer goalie; in his senior year, he was rated in a national publication as being in the top 1% of U.S. high school goalies for the high number of penalty kicks saved. Two years after graduating from high school, he married his high school sweetheart, Lynn, whom he had met at St. Mary’s Academy; she survives him.

Together they moved to the Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood, just off Woodstock Boulevard. The couple had one daughter, Nicole, born in 1989. Baker mainly worked in the petroleum business as an operations manager, although he most recently was an independent insurance agent. He coached his daughter’s girls basketball team at Our Lady of Sorrows Elementary School in her sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. The eighth grade team won second place in the CYO city championships. In addition to being survived by his wife Lynn and daughter Nicole, Baker leaves behind his brother Chris, and his parents James and Diana Baker.
