Josephine Marguerite Claflin

July 21, 1920-April 5, 2014

CalfinJosephine “Jo” Claflin, born July 21, 1920, left this world but not our hearts on April 5, 2014, at the age of 93.

Jo was a lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest, born in Chehalis, Wash., and residing several years in Portland prior to moving to Scappoose in 1983.

For the last 12 years she was a proud and involved resident of Rose Valley Assisted Living, where she enjoyed spending time with her many friends and was an active member of several resident boards.

A longtime activist for Senior Citizen rights, Jo spent many years as a board member for ColCo of Columbia County, participated in political committees at the state level, and most recently was an influential voice for the residents of Rose Valley Assisted Living.

Jo was an avid Blazer fan and never missed listening to a game.

Jo’s first husband tragically perished in a fire while attempting to save their family pet.

Jo remarried Jess “Willard” Claflin, with whom she had one son, Charles “Chuck” Claflin in 1956. Jo and Bill were also foster parents, opening their hearts and home to many children in need over the years.

Jo is survived by sister, Kathy Dalton of Eugene, Ore.; daughter, Karen Blades and her husband Zac of Scappoose; grandchildren, Carmin Beardsley of St. Helens, Conni Claflin of Providence, R.I., and Mike Beardsley of Scappoose; and great-grandson Jarod Beardsley of Scappoose. She was preceded in death by husband, Bill Claflin and son, Chuck Claflin.

Jo was interred at Columbia Memorial Gardens on Saturday, April 12, 2014, attended lovingly by her family.

A private memorial service was held at Rose Valley Assisted Living on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, for her many close friends.
