Gerald Gary Wayne Shields

Gary Shields, 62, passed away on Jan. 15, 2014 in Prineville.

Gary was born on Dec. 14, 1951 to Eldon and Xariffa (Jagger) Shields in Nampa, Idaho. His father was a minister for the Nazarene Church. He lived in Idaho, Oregon, Missouri and Colorado as a child. He graduated from high school in Denver, Colo. On Dec. 27, 1975 he married Dianne Overton in Black Forest, Colo. The couple had three sons – Todd, Michael and Austin.

Gary worked for Firestone Tire in Des Moines, Iowa before moving to Prineville in 1985. He worked for the Les Schwab Distribution Center for over 25 years. Gary will be remembered for his positive outlook on life, his love of friends and family and delicious homemade cinnamon rolls.

He is survived by his three sons - Todd (Noël) Shields of Prineville, Michael (Loni) Shields of Prineville, and Austin Shields of Vancouver, Wash., his five grandchildren, Elyce, Emma, Tyler, Gwendalyn and Celia Shields, his father Eldon Shields of Boise, Idaho, his sister Carol (Murray) Carkuff of Athol , Idaho, brother Earl (Jo) Shields of New Ellenton, S.C. and brother Don (Edda) Shields of Bend, Ore. He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister.

A memorial service was held on Jan. 18, 2014 at the Nazarene Church. Pastor Matt Huff officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice through Whispering Pines Funeral Home, 185 N.E. 4th, Prineville, OR 97754
