Evalyn Harriet (Hoffman) Bryant

Evalyn Harriet (Hoffman) BryantEvalyn Harriet (Hoffman) Bryant was born to Nina and Aaron Hoffman in Prineville on March 6, 1920. She lived on the family ranch south of Prineville. She was her “dad’s helper” and loved to ride her horses.

At age 6, Nina took Evalyn and her baby sister, Betty and moved to Brothers, Ore. they moved from ranch to ranch, where Nina cooked. Evalyn attended six different school, including CCHS and worked summers on ranches as extra help.

On Aug. 24, 1937, at age 17 Evalyn married the love of her life, Don Bryant. They started married life fixing fence and cutting posts until Don was hired by Endicott Logging in Prineville.

In May of 1939, they were blessed with a daughter, Donna Kay. Then in June 1945, they were again blessed again with another daughter, Vicki Lynn.

Evalyn lost her husband of 37 years in January, 1975 to cancer.

Evelyn worked for 32 years at various restaurants, but mostly at the Prineville Elks Lodge. She was an amazing cook. She wanted to give “special thanks” to Debbie Sue for giving her the job at the Elks because “she doesn’t know what she would have done without you.”

In March 2006, she finally retired. She lived with family and friends until she found her “home away from home” at Ochoco Care Center. In her own words…”It’s been a good life”.

She is survived by daughters, Donna (Don) Demaris and Vicki (John) Stephens, seven grandchildren, Brett Raymond, Cass Raymond, Kama Raymond, Jack Stephens, Roslynn Stephens, and Jane Demari; eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Bryant, sister Betty Basey, and a granddaughter, Valli Raymond.
