Albert E. Wintermute

Albert E. Wintermute, of Prineville, passed away on July 13, 2014. He was 87 years old.
He was born on April 28, 1927 in Gaston, Ore., to Albert and Venita Wintermute.
Albert attended high school in Gaston then joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1945 to 1949. He married Dorothy Marie Goss and early in their marriage, he worked in plywood mills in Port Orford and Cottage Grove. In 1964, he moved to Portland to start his employment with the post office.
After a 22-year career, Albert retired from the post office, and moved to Prineville. It was there that he made many new friends, and met his second wife Jean. He became a deacon with St. Andrews Church and was affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars post, the Prineville Senior Center, and the Band of Brothers.
Albert enjoyed bowling, dancing, fishing, calling bingo, and playing cribbage at the senior center.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Wintermute; son, Michale Wintermute; daughter, Julie Marie McQuiston; granddaughter, Diane Marie Meadows; two great-grandchildren; seven stepchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Marie Goss, and his sister, Eleanor.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, in Prineville, on July 21, at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow at the Eagles Club, 235 N.E. Fourth St., at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Charles Hospice of Prineville or a cancer research charity.
