NWOC baseball: La Salle splits series with Putnam

The league-leading Falcons bounced back from a 10-3 loss on Friday with an 11-0 rout on Saturday, pushing their league record to 10-1

La Salle Prep's Matt Duarte went 3-for-4 with an RBI-single and scored two runs, and Ole Arntson crushed a two-run homer to key a 12-hit attack that carried the Falcons to an 11-0 Northwest Oregon Conference home win Saturday over the Putnam Kingsmen.

Levi Miles and Miles Norman added two hits each for the league-leading Falcons (12-5, 10-1 NWOC), who bounced back from Friday's 10-3 loss at Putnam to earn a split of the two-game series with the Kingsmen (11-6, 8-3).

Miles started for La Salle and pitched six shutout innings, checking the Kingsmen on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Duarte worked the seventh and needed only six pitches to retire all three batters he faced with one strikeout.

La Salle took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Duarte singled with one out off Putnam starter Jordan Proudfoot, and Arntson followed with a homer to left.

The Falcons added a run in the fourth when Justin Owen led off with a single, and pinch-runner Luke Greenslade scored on Dom Pisaneschi's fielder's choice.

In the sixth, La Salle sent 14 batters to the plate and scored eight unearned runs on six hits, three walks, and two Putnam errors.

MILWAUKIE 2-8, ST. HELENS 0-2: Cole Roberts went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple, and Theo Dover added a solo homer as the Mustangs scored an 8-2 victory to complete a sweep of Saturday's Northwest Oregon Conference double-header at Clackamas High School.

In the opener, Milwaukie's Bradley McVay threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and Roberts went 2-for-2 and scored twice, leading the Mustangs to a 2-0 win.

With the sweep, the Mustangs (7-9, 5-6 NWOC) extended their winning streak to four games and climbed into a fourth-place tie with Hillsboro.

FRIDAY GAME

PUTNAM 10, LA SALLE PREP 3: Sam Booth with 2-for-2 with a double and a grand slam home run, and Jake Foglio added a solo homer and a two-run single as the Kingsmen handed the Falcons their first loss in league play, snapping a nine-game win streak.

Trailing 3-2, Putnam took the lead in the fourth inning when Jake Storment singled, Colby Grace walked, and both runners scored on Foglio's single to right off La Salle starter Matt Lynch.

The Kingsmen broke the game open with six runs in the fifth, Booth delivering the big blow with his grand slam to left field off reliever Bryce Falk, scoring Foglio, Andrew Howell, and Drew Urban to make the score 10-3.

Storment pitched the first 4 1-3 innings for Putnam, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits with two walks and one strikeout. Kody Hall tossed 2 2-3 innings of shutout relief, checking the Falcons on two hits with two strikeouts to close out the game.

THURSDAY GAME

LA SALLE PREP 4, HILLSBORO 1: La Salle starter Ole Arntson held Hillsboro to one run on three hits over the first six innings, and Matt Duarte pitched a scoreless seventh as the Falcons won at Ron Tonkin Field to complete a three-game series sweep against the Spartans.

Levi Miles with 1-for-3 with an RBI-triple and scored the go-ahead run in a three-run fourth inning for the Falcons.
