‘The Big Combo

Action/Adventure Theater plays host to a sketch comedy by Caitlin Kunkel and Jason Rouse, featuring topics such as complex lists, nervous rotisserie chickens, the dangers of freshwater swimming, waiting rooms, the deep knowledge of 4-year-olds, sanctioned time travel and Boz Scaggs.

Live Wire! Radio

It’s a big week for the radio/stage/variety show folks, who will be celebrating their 10th anniversary show, which has been moved to the Aladdin Theater to accommodate the expected big crowd. Fred Armisen of “Portlandia” and “Saturday Night Live” fame — and now Seth Meyers’ sidekick on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” — headlines the show. Also guests are writer Sherman Alexie, standup comic W. Kamau Bell, “Late Night with David Letterman” co-creator Merrill Markoe and musical acts Sallie Ford and Run On Sentence.

State Chess Tournament

The 47th annual event will feature about 600 children (12th grade and younger) from around the state. It was founded in 1967 by OMSI and The Oregonian newspaper. The group Chess for Success has been facilitating the tournament since 1998.
