Bits & Pieces: 'Seeing Nature'

Mark your calendars for October 2015-January 2016, when European and American landscape painting masterworks, about 40 of them, from the Paul G. Allen Family Collection will be on display at Portland Art Museum. “Paul Allen is one of the Northwest’s most significant art collectors and philanthropists,” says Brian Ferriso, The Marilyn H. and Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. director. “His willingness to share his landscape masterpieces with our visitors continues his exceptional generosity and is a wonderful opportunity to be inspired by works of art that reflect his personal vision.”

Cirque Portlander

Pendulum Aerial Arts, featured by Caitlin Feldman in the recent Beaverton Valley Times, now features a retired member of Cirque de Soleil, instructor Rebecca Sukhanova.

“It’s nice to come here, because I have my own little creative outlet,” says Sukhanova, a nine-year member of Cirque.

Now that she’s done performing, Sukhanova is happy to be on the other side of things and to spend more time with her husband and baby son.

“It’s amazing to be in front of all those people, but there’s a lot of sacrifice that comes with that,” she says. When asked if she plans on participating in future productions, Sukhanova laughs. “No, no. I think a decade is long enough.”

Meanwhile, Cirque du Soleil’s “Totem” has been thrilling audiences at the Expo Center, and tickets still remain for shows through May 4. For info: www.cirque dusoleil.com/totem.
