The choir brought home a fourth-place trophy in what Choir Director Tim Friesen called their best performance of the season.

“Even if they wouldn't have placed in the top five, I would have considered their performance a wonderful success, in that they put together their best performance this year by far,” Friesen said. by: JOHN WILLIAM HOWARD,

 - Concert Choir in performance at state competition last week.“Each of the four pieces performed were so much better than even a couple of weeks ago. The students realized that ‘pretty good’ wasn't good enough, and were determined to improve in numerous aspects of each piece.”

The four pieces performed were "Vere Languores," a 16th century Latin number; "An Afro-Celtic Diddle," a spirited a capella piece combining Celtic and African texts; "Oculi Omnium," a contemporary and very challenging Latin piece, and "Ain't Judgin' No Man," annother a capella arrangement.

“These students know that judging at an event like this can be very subjective, so when they sing, they sing for themselves and for the joy of the music they get to create,” Friesen said. “They sing knowing that they have to look at themselves in the mirror when everything's said and done and know they gave it everything they could. Today they did just that! I couldn't have possibly asked for any more from them. They should be very proud.”
