BOYDS, Md. — Can anyone beat the Portland Thorns FC?

The Washington Spirit couldn't on Saturday, when the Thorns won 2-1 at Maryland SoccerPlex and extended their unbeaten streak to four games.

Portland (3-0-1) led 2-0 after goals by Alex Morgan on a 12th-minute penalty kick and Nikki Washington in the 51st minute.

Washington got one back with a PK in the 86th minute but couldn't add to that against Portland goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc, who totaled six saves.

The Spirit fell to 0-2-2 in the National Women's Soccer League.

Morgan's penalty shot came after she received a long pass from defender Nikki Marshall.

Washington scored from 20 yards after intercepting an errant pass.

Each team had 11 shots on goal before the announced crowd of 5,011.

Portland's next game is Sunday, May 12 at the Chicago Red Stars, who lost at home to Portland 2-0 on April 27.
