Late HR lifts Boise over Hillsboro Hops

THE STORY

Yasiel Balaguert's two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Hawks the home win.

WHAT IT MEANS

Boise won the three-game series 2-1 and moved into second place in the Class A Northwest League South Division.

The Hops fell to 2-9 on the road.

TOP HOPS

• Catcher Yosbel Gutierrez had two of Hillsboro's seven hits, a triple and one RBI.

• Shortstop Ryan Gebhardt's single scored Gutierrez from third base in the third inning and tied the score at 1-1.

• Right fielder Zachary Esquerra's double in the fourth scored first baseman George Roberts from first and put the Hops ahead 2-1. Roberts got aboard on a wild pitch after striking out swinging.

• Hillsboro took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth, when center fielder Taylor Ratliff hit a two-out single and left fielder Yogey Perez-Ramos followed with a triple.

NOTES

• Johnny Shuttlesworth (0-1), the third Hillsboro pitcher, took the loss after giving up the eighth-inning home run.

• Starter Austin Platt allowed three runs (all earned) and seven hits in six innings, with four strikeouts and two walks.
