Volcanoes stay hot, burn Hops 7-2

THE STORY

The Volcanoes improved to 5-0 over the Hops this season, leading from start to finish in the second game of a three-game weekend series.

Salem-Keizer scored three runs in the first inning as Jeremy Sy homered with two aboard. The Volcanoes added one in both the second and third innings and built their lead to 7-0 with two runs in the sixth.

WHAT IT MEANS

Hillsboro has dropped four of its first five series in the Class A Northwest League.

Salem-Keizer has won seven games in a row and is 7-1 on the road.

TOP HOPS

• Leadoff man Taylor Ratliff, the center fielder, was 3 for 5, and third baseman Jordan Parr went 3 for 4 with a two-RBI double in the eighth inning.

NOTES

• Former Portland Pilots starter Chris Johnson improved to 2-1 with the Volcanoes, working the first six innings without giving up a run. He allowed five hits and no walks and struck out seven batters.

• Hillsboro starter Jonathan Pulley (0-2) made it through 5 2/3 innings but took the loss, surrendering 11 hits and seven runs (five earned), with one walk and four strikeouts.

• The Volcanoes outhit the Hops 13-10.
