Salem-Keizer sweeps Hillsboro again

THE STORY

The Volcanoes completed their second three-game sweep of Hillsboro this season, running their record to 6-0 against the Hops.

The Hops scored once in the bottom of the ninth on Jordan Parr's leadoff home run, but they wound up with their seventh one-run defeat (three to Salem-Keizer) in Class A Northwest League play.

WHAT IT MEANS

The Hops, who are last in the NWL South Division, fell to 2-4 at home.

Salem-Keizer stretched its winning streak to eight games and improved to 8-1 on the road.

TOP HOPS

• Parr had two of Hillsboro's eight hits.

• Designated hitter Tyler Linton also homered for the Hops, getting a solo blast in the fifth inning.

NOTES

• After Parr's ninth-inning HR cut Salem-Keizer's lead to one, the Hops went down in order on a ground ball and two strikeouts.

• Hillsboro starter Ross Gerdeman (0-1) took the loss. He pitched six innings, giving up five hits and three runs, all earned, with three walks and three strikeouts.

• The Hops left five runners on base and were 1 for 9 batting with runners in scoring position. The Volcanoes stranded eight men and were 2 for 14 with runners in scoring position.
