Brendan Burke stopped 29 shots, and Brendan Leipsic garnered a goal and an assist to help lead the Portland Winterhawks over the Tri-City Americans 4-1 Wednesday night at Moda Center.
Nic Petan's score off his forced turnover 3:31 into the game gave Portland a 1-0 lead that lasted until 4:14 into the third period, when Adam Rossignol scored on a rebound for the Hawks.
Tri-City answered on a breakaway at 8:27 and stayed within a goal of the Winterhawks until Presten Kopeck scored for Portland at 15:37.
Oliver Bjorkstrand's 11th goal of the season found an empty net at 18:50.
Bjorkstrand leads Portland in goals (Petan and Alex Schoenborn are tied for second with five each) and points (his 19 are one better than Petan).
The Hawks led in shots 48-30, after outshooting Tri-City 17-6 in the first period, 16-12 in the second and 15-12 in the third before the announced crowd of 5,152.
Both teams were 0-3 on the power play.
Portland improved to 5-3-0-1 (11 points), while the Ams fell to 4-7-0-1 (9 points).
The Hawks' next game is 7 p.m. Friday at Moda Center against Swift Current. Then comes a season-high five-game trip.
