It was a getaway game that got away from the Portland Winterhawks.

With five players away for world junior play and another key team member, Brendan Leipsic, serving a Western Hockey League suspension, the Hawks lost 4-2 at Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday night to the formidable Everett Silvertips.

The Winterhawks now go into the holiday break with a two-point lead over Everett in the very tight U.S. Division.

Portland's next game is Dec. 27 at Tri-City.
