Sports news galore in the Portland area:

• The six clubs in the Portland Soccer League begin their second-half schedule.

The Longview Barons defeat the Macleays 5-1 at Montavilla Park.

Multnomah downs St. Georges 4-1 at Columbia Park.

And the Vikings and Sports play to a 1-1 tie at Sellwood Park.

• Also, at Sellwood Community House, the host Trojans won two basketball games on a Saturday, defeating NePage 18-14 and trouncing the Cathlamet five 31-16.

• And, in Portland golf news, superintendent of parks C.P. Keyser says that the nine-hole West Hills course, which is expected to be converted into a short 18-holer, could wind up as a 15-hole "pony" course. Keyser says the average golfer will be able to go around the new course in 90 minutes, carrying only a couple of irons instead of a bagful of clubs.
