At the world junior hockey championships in Malmo, Sweden, the Czech Republic stunned Canada 5-4 in a group stage shootout on Saturday.
Nic Petan of the Portland Winterhawks missed as one of three Canadian shooters, and the Czechs outscored Canada 2-1 in the shootout.
Canada's record dropped to 1-0-1 in the tourney, while the Czech Republic, which had lost 5-1 to the United States, improved to 1-1-0.
A crowd of 3,011 at the Isstadion saw Canada rally four times from one-goal deficits.
Winterhawks Derrick Pouliot and Taylor Leier also are playing for Canada.
