Winterhawks add D-man Dumba

by: COURTESY OF DAVE BRUNNER PHOTOGRAPHY - Defenseman Mathew Dumba is being sent down from the NHL Minnesota Wild to the WHL Portland Winterhawks. The Portland Winterhawks are getting a boost with the addition of defenseman Mathew Dumba.

Dumba, who has played 13 games this season with the NFL Minnesota Wild, has been sent back to juniors and will play for the Hawks, who acquired his rights last month in a deal with the Western Hockey League Red Deer Rebels.

Dumba is fresh off a stint with Canada's team at the world junior championship in Malmo, Sweden.

Also coming back to the Winterhawks from that tournament are D-man Derrick Pouliot and forwards Nic Petan and Taylor Leier, all members of the Canadian team.

Dumba had 16 goals and 26 assists in 62 games for Red Deer in the 2012-13 WHL season.

He was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2012 NHL draft.
