Jan. 16, 1990: Danny Miles gets 400th win — in game played at two sites

Danny Miles, Oregon Tech men's basketball coach, has just collected his 400th career victory.

The Owls beat Simpson College 130-52 in Anderson, Calif. — and Redding, Calif.

The game attracted national attention, because it was played in two sites.MILES

The unusual circumstances came after the backboard at American Christian Academy — Simpson's home court — was shattered on a dunk by OIT's Tyrone Holmes. The basket gave OIT a 15-5 lead with 13:11 remaining in the first half.

No one had a way to continue play until one of the Simpson player's parents offered to have the game resume at Liberty Christian High in Redding, where he was the principal.

So the teams made the eight-mile trek and, 35 minutes later, they picked up where they had left off.

Miles, in his 19th season at Oregon Tech, improved to 400-180, with his 1989-90 team at 17-7.

Today, Miles is still at Oregon Tech, and he is going into this weekend with 998 career victories.
