MEN'S COLLEGE HOOPS: Beavers take down Ducks 80-72


Oregon State had its way with Oregon in Sunday's Civil War men's basketball clash at Gill Coliseum.

The Beavers held the Ducks to 37.9-percent shooting from the field and won 80-72.

Four Beaver starters scored in double figures, while none of the Duck starters finished with more than eight points.

Roberto Nelson led all scorers with 22 points for OSU, which fired at a 44.2-percent clip from the floor.

Eric Moreland had 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Beavers, while Angus Brandt scored 14 points and Hallice Cooke added 10 points.

Oregon's top scorers were subs Jason Calliste (17 points), Richard Amardi (13) and Ben Carter (11). Starter Mike Moser had a team-high 10 rebounds and eight points.

Oregon State improved to 10-7 overall, and the Ducks dropped to 13-4 with their fourth consecutive loss.

Oregon State is 2-3 in the Pac-12; Oregon is 1-4.

OSU trailed only once -- at 2-0. The Beavers led by as many as 16 points in the first hald and went to the break on top 37-30.

The teams will meet one more time during the regular season, at noon on Sunday, Feb. 16 at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene.
