  • Vikings topple Northern Colorado

    PSU led all the way, and by 21 points at halftime, in stunning Northern Colorado 80-57 at Stott Center.

    The Vikings' third win in a row, and fifth in six games, lifted them to 5-4 in the Big Sky. The Bears fell to 7-2, one game behind Weber State (8-1).

    Kyle Richardson scored a career-high 16 points and added eight rebounds for the Viks. Gary Winston had 19 points and tied his career best with six assists. Marcus Hall scored 17 points.

    The Vikings led 43-22 at intermission after going 14 of 23 (60.9 percent) from the field, while holding UNC to 8 of 25 (32.0 percent).

    PSU led by as many as 27 points in the second half.

    Portland State takes a 9-3 home record (10-8) overall into the finale of a four-game conference homestand when it plays North Dakota (9-10, 6-3) at 7 p.m. Saturday.

  • Beavers at .500 in Pac-12

    Oregon State held on in OT to beat visiting USC 76-75 in Corvallis.

    The Trojans' Pe'Shon Howard missed the second of two free throws with .9 of a second left.

    Roberto Nelson led OSU with a game-high 24 points. He also tied his career best with eight rebounds.

    Oregon State improved to 4-4 in the Pac-12 and 12-8 overall before the announced crowd of 3,774.

    Hallice Cooke's 3-pointer with 53 seconds left in regulation, after an Oregon State offensive rebound, tied the game at 72-72 and forced overtime.

    USC dropped to 10-11, 1-7.

    Oregon State will play host to UCLA at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

  • Ducks suffer another tough loss

    UCLA turned away Oregon 70-68 in the closing moments at Matthew Knight Arena.

    The Ducks had rallied with a 14-0 run that gave them a 68-65 lead, but with the game tied at 68-68 the Bruins forced a jump ball after UO's Richard Amardi had seemingly rebounded — and then UCLA scored the game-winner on a layup by Travis Wear with 5.3 seconds remaining.

    Joseph Young led the Ducks with 25 points.

    Oregon is 14-6 overall and 2-6 in the Pac-12. UCLA is 17-4, 6-2.

    USC visits Matt Knight at 5 p.m. Saturday.
