SCORESHEET: Winterhawks' Brendan Burke earns CHL goalie award

Back-to-back shutouts earned Brendan Burke of the Portland Winterhawks the Canadian Hockey League's goaltender of the week award.BURKE

Burke stopped all 48 shots he faced last weekend as the Winterhawks blanked Spokane 6-0 and Seattle 3-0.

The victories ran Portland's winning streak to 10 games.

Burke, 18, is in his third Western Hockey League season, all with the Hawks.

From Scottsdale, Ariz., Burke has emerged as the team's No. 1 goalie this year, after backing up Mac Carruth, now in pro hockey.

Burke is a sixth-round draft choice (2013) of the NHL Phoenix Coyotes.

He is 29-10-2-2 in 43 appearances this season for Portland, with three shutouts, a 2.82 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.

Another top candidate for the award was Dalen Kuchmey of the Windsor Spitfires, who had two wins and one shutout in two starts. Also, François Tremblay of the Victoriaville Tigres posted a 3-0-0-0 record with one shutout win.

The Winterhawks play Friday at Tri-City.
