by: COURTESY OF UNIVERSITY OF OREGON - The United States Tennis Association has awarded a $20,000 grant to help renovate two courts at Berkeley Park in Southeast Portland, where the late Alex Rovello, a Cleveland High and University of Oregon star, learned to play the game.The drive to renovate Berkeley Park's tennis courts in honor of the late Alex Rovello got another boost Monday.

The United States Tennis Association is giving a $20,000 grant to the project, designed to upgrade the conditions at the Southeast Portland park.

Resurfacing and repair of the two courts, and other facility improvements are in the plans as fund-raisers continue to gather support.

Rovello, who was undefeated in winning four state titles for Cleveland High, was the University of Oregon's No. 1 singles player and competed for three seasons with the Ducks before he died last year in a diving accident.
