COLLEGE WATCH: Ducks set indoor marks

The Oregon Ducks, ranked third in the nation on the men's side and second on the women's side, are continuing their march toward the NCAA indoor championships March 14-15 at the Albuquerque (N.M.) Convention Center.

The Ducks had athletes at both the Husky Classic in Seattle and Don Kirby Elite in Albuquerque over the weekend.

Among the top Oregon results:

• The women's 4x400-meter relay posted the best NCAA time this season. Chizoba Okodogbe, Laura Roesler, Christian Brennan and Phyllis Francis won in 3:30.08.

• Mike Berry broke a school record set in 2005 in the 200, running 20.84 at the Kirby Elite. His time ranks seventh in the NCAA in 2014.

• Freshman Sasha Wallace of Castro Valley, Calif., set a school record in the indoor triple jump, going 42-5 1/2, which ranks 11th on the 2014 NCAA women's list.

• Megan Patrignelli posted the fifth-ranked 3,000 time of 9:04.96 to win at Seattle.

• Trevor Dunbar had the eighth-fastest men's 3,000 mark, finishing third at the Husky Classic in 7:53.13.

• Mac Fleet won his first indoor race of 2014, clocking 3:58.25 to win the mile at UW's Dempsey Indoor Facility.

• Greg Skipper set a school record of 68-3 in the weight throw.

• NCAA cross-country champion Edward Cheserek, a freshman, made his indoor 5,000 debut a success, winning in 13:40.51, third-best in the nation this season.

• Dakotah Keys claimed the UW Invitational heptathlon with 5,730 points, third on the NCAA season list.

• Boru Guyota, from Jefferson High, placed fifth in the 800 in 1:49.53.

OTHER TRACK AND FIELD

• Ryan Poland broke the University of Portland indoor mile record at the Husky Classic, running 4:01.38.

• Walter Jones had Oregon State's highest finish, a third in the long jump (23-8 3/4) at the Husky Classic.

• Also at Seattle, Concordia's Matthew Clowes took nearly one second off his school indoor mile record, running 4:03.78.

• Portland State recorded 23 PTs at the Husky Classic, as they prepared for the Feb. 27-March 1 Big Sky indoor championships at Pocatello, Idaho.

GYMNASTICS

Oregon State, ranked 13th in the nation, totaled 196.675 points Saturday to beat Boise State, Utah State and Seattle Pacific in the Comfort Suites Invitational at Corvallis.

OSU junior Chelsea Tang won the all-around with a 39.325.

Boise State, ranked 16th, took second with 196.000. Utah State had a 194.025, and Seattle Pacific finished with 192.650.

The Beavers' next action is at Utah, 5 p.m. PT Saturday.
