Feb. 17, 1953: The Park Rose Broncos win in prep basketball

The Park Rose Broncos (yes, Park Rose was two words in those days) defeat Concordia's Blue Jays 52-40 in a nonleague boys basketball game.

In the Valley Coast League, Central Catholic squares its season series with Gresham, downing the Gophers 66-65 even with three Rams mainstays, Phil McHugh, Vince Altenhofen and Hal Duffy, having fouled out. Milwaukie and Gresham remain atop the six-team Valley Coast League, with Central third, followed by Astoria, Tillamook and Park Rose.

In the Portland Interscholastic League, Benson coach Dick Gray — before he turned to the fast-break offense — has his team try to stall in the final two minutes, holding a one-point lead over Lincoln. The game goes to overtime, where Benson wins 62-61.
