The University of Portland has chosen Nick Carlin-Voigt as its new men’s soccer coach.

He has been associate head coach at UCLA the past four years.

Before that, he worked at George Mason and coached the D.C United Youth Academy Program.CARLIN-VOIGT

Carlin-Voigt played at Kalamazoo College as a goalkeeper, graduating in 2004.

In the UP statement, athletic director Scott Leykam said: “Nick is ready to be a head coach and we are fortunate to have him join our Portland family. He is smart, passionate, organized and understands the great opportunity he has in front of him. Nick was highly recommended by many influential people in the American soccer ranks and has been mentored by top-tier head coaches. His recruiting pedigree speaks for itself and we are excited to see him bring Portland men’s soccer back to the forefront of the conference and national scenes.”

Trevon Bradford, a wide receiver from Oregon City, has joined the Oregon State football program, signing a financial aid agreement.

Bradford, 5-11 and 180 pounds, caught 60 passes for 1,176 yards and 19 touchdowns last season, when he was Mt. Hood Conference offensive player of the year.

He is expected to arrive on campus in time for the March 28 start of spring football practice.


Bryan Tunstill, John Grothe, Matt Brown Louis Bennett, Scott Leritz and Rob Gibbons, all from Oregon or Southwest Washington, are 2015 honorees of the Pacific Northwest Section PGA of America.TUNSTILL

Tunstill, head pro at Columbia Edgewater Country Club, gained the top honor as Golf Professional of the Year.

Grothe, head pro at the OGA Golf Club in Woodburn, received the Player Development Award.

Brown, of Highlands Golf Club in Gearhart, was chosen as the Merchandiser of the Year for public facilities.

Leritz, head pro at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Wash., was chosen Merchandiser of the Year for private facilities.

Gibbons, of Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, was named Senior Player of the Year.

All will be honored at the Pacific Northwest Section Special Awards Ceremony March 20 at Tualatin Country Club.
