College coach leads Oregon Open Invitational
Russell Grove, a pro golfer who is the men's coach at North Idaho College, had a three-stroke lead Tuesday after the first round of the Oregon Open Invitational in Redmond.
Grove, who grew up in Couer d'Alene, Idaho, and played for the University of Idaho, shot a 5-under-par 67 despite blustering, 20-mph wind at Juniper Golf Course.
Amateur Nate Blauer of Rock Creek Country Club and pro Derek Berg of Sahalee Country Club were tied for second.
Dave Lebeck of Portland Golf Club was in a three-way tie for fourth at 71.
The 54-hole event goes through Thursday.
Past winners include Peter Jacobsen, Bob Duden, Rick Acton, Mike Davis, Jeff Coston, Pat Fitzsimons, Jerry Mowlds, Bill Eggers, Horton Smith and Tommy Armour.
