FRIDAY SPORTS NEWS/Tuneup successful as Portland star looks for another U.S. 10,000-meter title; Rainsberger runner-up in women's 1,500 at Stumptown Twilight

Galen Rupp of Portland tuned up for the U.S. championships with a 5,000-meter victory Friday night at Lewis & Clark College.

Rupp won in 13 minutes, 54.88 in the Stumptown Twilight.

The former University of Oregon and Central Catholic High distance runner/marathon intends to go for his ninth consecutive U.S. crown in the 10,000 at next week's USA Track & Field meet at Sacramento.

In other events at L&C, Oregon Ducks freshman Katie Rainsberger was second in the High Performance 1,500 in 4:09.08, a personal best that ranks fourth in UO history, and ex-Duck Jordan Hasay was fifth in the High Performance 5,000 in 15:45.84.

Georgia Griffith won the HP women's 1,500 in 4:07.32.

Sasha Gollish won the HP women's 5,000 in 15:24.12.

Second to Rupp was Luc Bruchet in 13:56.84.
