Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Matt Koch is scheduled to start Tuesday for Hillsboro when the Hops open their 2017 home schedule — and he'll be the first player with MLB experience to play for the Hops.
Opening night at Ron Tonkin Field is a 7 p.m. series opener against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.
Koch made his MLB debut Sept. 9, 2016 against the San Francisco Giants. He pitched 18 innings last year for the Diamondbacks, going 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA, nine hits allowed and 10 strikeouts.
The 6-3, 215-pounder from Cherokee, Iowa is with Hillsboro on a rehab assignment from the Triple-A Reno Aces after suffering an injury in April.
Koch, 26, was a third-round draft pick in 2012 of the New York Mets. Arizona acquired him in an August 2015 trade for reliever Addison Reed.
