The Seattle Mariners are heading back to Safeco Field, with the expectation to get two starting pitchers back, fresh off salvaging the final road game at Texas to finish 3-4 on the trip.
The Mariners scored four runs in the first inning off Texas starter Yu Darvish, started by Kyle Seager's run-scoring double and finished by Danny Valencia's two-run homer as Seattle beat the Rangers 7-3 Sunday at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.
Christian Bergman had a fine start, giving up only four hits and two runs (on Carlos Gomez's homer) in 5 2/3 innings. Five relievers gave up no hits and only one run on a wild pitch.
Seager went 3 for 5 — all three hits were doubles — with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Darvish gave up eight hits and five runs while striking out six and walking one in five innings for the Rangers (34-34). Darvish was 5-0 at home against the Mariners before the loss.
The Mariners (34-37) had split a four-game series at Minnesota before losing the first two games at Texas and then winning Sunday.
Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma are both expected to return from injuries in the upcoming series against Houston.
The Mariners first have to deal with Detroit, with Sam Gaviglio (3-1, 3.41) taking the mound opposite Anibal Sanchez (0-0, 9.00) in Monday's 7 p.m. game at Safeco Field. The Mariners play four games against Detroit, three against Houston and two against Philadelphia.
Shortstop Jean Segura is expected to return to the lineup next week.
