Seattle put up some runs early, but has lost seven consecutive games at Safeco Field, and now faces A.L. West Division rival Oakland;

PEREZThe Seattle Mariners put up a fight early in Wednesday's game, but Kansas City forged a tie and then beat them 9-6 in 10 innings at Safeco Field.

In the 10th inning, Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer and Alex Gordon followed with an RBI single as the Royals (44-40) finished with the three-game sweep of the Mariners (41-45), who have lost seven consecutive home games.

The Mariners play Oakland next, starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, with Sam Gaviglio (3-3, 3.48) pitching for Seattle opposite Paul Blackburn (0-0, 0.00).

The Royals burst out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning off Seattle starter Ariel Miranda on Eric Hosmer's two-run double and Mike Moustakas' two-run homer (his 25th; he homered in each of the games in the series).

But, the Mariners scored in the first three innings off 12-game winner (and former Mariner) Jason Vargas. Nelson Cruz had an RBI groundout and Ben Gamel a run-scoring single in the first inning. Both Mike Zunino (solo) and Jean Segura (two-run shot) hit homers in the second inning. And, Cruz hit his first homer since June 4 in the third inning, making it 6-4, Seattle.

Lorenzo Cain tied it with a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Vargas settled down to pitch two scoreless innings and the Mariners managed only one hit — and no runs — off four Kansas City relievers in the final five innings.

Perez hit the game-winning two-run homer off James Pazos.

Kelvin Herrera retired the Mariners 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Moustakas went 3-for-5. Only Jorge Soler went hitless for Kansas City.
