Indians beat visiting Hillsboro 6-3 to win three of five games in the series; Hops in three-team tie atop NWL South Division

Andretty Cordero homered, doubled and knocked in three runs for Spokane as the Indians beat the visiting Hillsboro Hops 6-3 on Monday in Northwest League baseball action at Avista Stadium in Spokane, Washington.

The Hops are 14-12, tied with Eugene and Boise in the Northwest League South Division.

Spokane is 10-16 and won three games in the five-game series with Hillsboro.

The Northwest League takes Tuesday off for the major league All-Star Game.

The Hops return home on Wednesday for a three-game set against Eugene at Ron Tonkin Field. All three games start at 7 p.m.

Cordero's two-run home run was his third in as many games and gave the Indians a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third inning.

In the fifth, Cordero hit an RBI double and scored on a base hit by Melvin Novoa.

Conor Grey (4-3) suffered the pitching loss. He allowed four runs, three earned, over four innings. He walked four, struck out three and gave up three hits.

Drew Ellis hit his second home run in as many nights to put the Hops up 1-0 in the top of the second inning.

Spokane tied it in the bottom of the second on a dropped fly ball.

Hillsboro went up 3-1 in the top of the third on three hits including RBI singles by Yan Sanchez and Pavin Smith, whop had two of the Hops seven hits.

The Hops twice left the bases loaded and stranded nine base runners.
