PSU names starting QB
Jalani Eason has been named the starting quarterback for Portland State's season opener.
A true freshman from Gardena, California, Eason was named the starter on Friday by Vikings' coach Bruce Barnum. PSU opens the season on August 26 at Brigham Young.
The 5-11, 185 pound Eason beat out senior Josh Kraght and redshird freshman Davis Alexander for the starting job.
The Mission League MVP last season at Junipero Serra High School, Eason threw for 2,290 yards and 18 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. He ran for 1,003 yards and 10 TDs as a high school senior.
When he signed with the Vikings in February, Barnum described Eason's ability to throw and run as a perfect fit for the PSU offense.
Kraght, who played wide receiver the last two seasons after playing quarterback in 2014, is expected to play as a slot receiver and be the backup quarterback.
