• The Beavers (2-0) opened their season with a morning upset of the No. 24 Cowboys, then rallied to defeat the Hoosiers in an early-afternoon contest.
OSU got on the board first against the Cowboys with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Oklahoma State scored twice in the bottom of the frame. The Beavers then got two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.
OSU had a 12-10 edge in hits, with Missy Nunes' two-run HR in the seventh ending the scoring.
Camryn Ybarra, Hope Brandner and Jessica Garcia all were 2 for 4 for Oregon State.
Freshman Mariah Mazon went the distance, issuing two walks with seven strikeouts.
Against Indiana, the Beavers trailed 1-0 until they broke out with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. McKenna Arriola doubled home a run and scored on a foul fly to the left fielder, and the third run came home on an infield error.
Nunes had a solo homer in the sixth.
Starting pitcher Meehra Nelson, a junior, held the Hoosiers to five hits and two walks, with six strikeouts in her complete game.
Oregon 15, Cal State Northridge 6
• The No. 3 Ducks posted a run-rule, five-inning victory over FSU, then improved to 3-0 by blasting the Matadors in six innings.
Miranda Elish held the Bulldogs to one hit in her first start of the year, while Gwen Svekis and Shannon Rhodes homered for the second game in a row to pace the Ducks in their first game of the day.
The morning HRs came back-to-back in the third inning, Rhodes' with two runners on base and then Svekis a blast that pushed UO into a 5-0 lead.
Oregon finished with 10 hits against Fresno State.
Elish, a sophomore, allowed a single in the first inning and one walk while striking out nine batters.
Oregon won its afternoon game with four runs in the second inning, three in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Svekis and Rhodes slugged their third homers in as many games, and transfer shortstop CJ Sanders hit two HRs and had four RBIs in a 14-hit game for the Ducks. Sanders' three-run bomb ended the game early.
Maggie Balint got the win, allowing seven hits and five earned runs over 5 2/3 innings.
At San Marcos, Texas
Florida State 18, Portland State 1
• The Vikings won their seson opener, then lost to the ninth-ranked Seminoles.
Kaela Morrow's grand slam spiced Game 1 and gave PSU a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Darian Lindsey had a three-run triple in the fourth. Morrow finished the game with five RBIs, while Lindsey went 3 for 3.
