THURSDAY LOCAL SPORTS NEWS/Former Beaverton golfer finishes strong for 68 in PGA Tour event


Beaverton product Ben Crane shot a 2-under-par 68 in the first round of the Honda Classic to tie for eighth at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Crane made three birdies (two on his last three holes) and one bogey over the PGA National Champion course.

Another former University of Oregon golfer, Aaron Wise, had a 76 and was tied for 123rd.

Alex Noren and Webb Simpson shared the lead at 66, with Justin Thomas among those one stroke back.

Tiger Woods shot 70, and Rory McElory had a 72.
