Knowledge Universe to stay in Lloyd District
The childhood education company signs a 10-year lease to keep their 400-person headquarters in Portland
Knowledge Universe, one of the largest employers in the Portland metro area, has signed a new 10-year lease in the Lloyd District, signaling the companys commitment to the developing neighborhood and to the city.
Knowledge Universe, whose family of brands includes KinderCare, Knowledge Beginnings, CCLC, and Champions, has more than 400 employees at its headquarters. It is the countrys largest private provider of early childhood education.
"Staying in the Lloyd District makes a great deal of sense to us," said Knowledge Universe CEO Tom Wyatt. "Signing this lease solidifies our commitment to the City of Portland and ensures our local employees will be in a central location with wide access to public transit for at least the next decade."
Knowledge Universe has been based in Portland since 1998. The company employs an additional 500 employees in the Portland area at their early childhood education centers and sites.
The companys decision to remain in Portlands Lloyd District adds to the momentum already in place in the rapidly changing neighborhood, which is currently undergoing a resurgence of construction as current businesses expand their presence and new businesses and residents move in.
"Having such a large employer commit its future to Portland and the Lloyd District is a huge boost for the city – and one that will leverage further economic development," said Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish, City Councils liaison to Venture Portland. "Knowledge Universe supports family wage jobs, promotes early childhood education, and contributes to our community."
