Horizon's Satterwhite takes fourth in shot put
Westside's Ryan Conlin qualifies for 100 final
Brian Satterwhite got the ball rolling for the Horizon Christian High School boys track and field team at the Class 3A state track and field championships.
Satterwhite, a Horizon Christian senior, scored the first points for the Hawks at the Class 3A state meet by placing fourth in the shot put finals today at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Satterwhite, a football standout at the Tualatin school who is in just his second season competing for the Hawks' track and field squad, earned his spot on the awards stand with a throw of 45 feet, 3 inches.
Coquille junior Brandon Brown won the Class 3A shot put event with a mark of 52-9. Blanchet Catholic senior Jeff Lieder was second at 50-5.5.
Also so far at the Class 3A state meet, Westside Christian senior Ryan Conlin has qualified for tomorrow's the finals of the girls 100-meter dash with her preliminary heat time of 12.88 seconds.
The Class 3A girls 100 finals are set to be run a 5:28 p.m. on Friday.
