"She would laughingly tell me that she had trained all the school's athletic directors," Harrington recalled on Monday as the Central Catholic community remembered one of its pillars.

More than 1,000 people attended a memorial Mass at the University of Portland's Chiles Center in honor of the nun who served as the assistant to Central Catholic's athletic directors from the late 1970s until her death on April 28 at age 72.

Among her many contributions to Central Catholic sports, Sister Jerome was the longtime scorekeeper for the baseball and basketball teams.

A past president of Central Catholic, Harrington was one of four who eulogized Sister Jerome on Monday. Close friend Joe Fessler, office mate of 35 years Steve Halligan, and 2016 Central Catholic graduate JJ Cichoke also spoke, talking about a selfless teacher who was tough, passionate, loving and funny.SISTER JEROME ZERR
