Oregon Ducks young, but 35-0 start put them high in NCAA polls

COURTESY: ERIC EVANS - Coach Mike White's Oregon Ducks won their first 35 games of 2017, and are chasing Arizona for their fifth consecutive Pac-12 title.EUGENE — Power has played a big part in the rise of Oregon Ducks softball.

Power at the plate — as evidenced by the program-record 95 home runs Oregon hit over 58 games last season.

And power in the pitching circle courtesy of Cheridan Hawkins, the three-time All-American who set program records for career strikeouts (1,081), wins (108) and shutouts (33).

But the graduation of three-time Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year Hawkins and several key hitters has not slowed the Ducks.

Oregon started the season with 35 consecutive wins, tying the NCAA record for most wins to start a season. The Ducks lost the first two games over the weekend at ninth-ranked UCLA, but scored 11 runs in Sunday's win over the Bruins.
