The Oregon men's golf team is in third place after the first of three rounds at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, hosted by Louisiana State University at The University Club.
Oregon shot a 1-under par 287 on Monday. Sophomore Edwin Yi shot a 4-under 68 and is tied for third individually. He is three strokes back of No. 2-ranked Sam Burns of LSU, who shot a 7-under 65 on Monday.
The top five teams after three 18-hole rounds will advance to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships. The Ducks, ranked No. 7, are the defending national champions.
LSU leads the team standings at 276, 12 under par. The Tigers have a six-stroke lead over Virginia (282) and an 11-stroke lead on the Ducks. Those three teams play together in Tuesday's second round, scheduled to start between 7:15 and 7:59 a.m. Pacific Time.
Other individual scores for the Ducks on Monday were even-par rounds of 72 from Wyndham Clark and Norman Xiong (tied for 11th), a 3-over 75 for Ryan Gronlund (tied for 32nd) and an 8-over 80 for Kevin Geniza (tied for 62nd). All five Ducks are freshmen or sophomores.
