by: TRIBUNE FILE PHOTO - Summer's nearly here, so Portland Parks & Recreation plan to open its outdoor pools this month so people can beat the heat . . . when it's hot.Seven outdoor pools run by Portland Parks & Recreation will open Tuesday, June 18, for the summer season.

Enrollment is open for swim lessons for all ages and ability levels. Most sessions include 10 lessons for $52.50.

There are also free learn-to-swim sessions June 18 to 21. Registration for those sessions are in-person only, on Saturday, June 15 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at each of the neighborhood pools.

The outdoor pools that will open June 18 for the season are Creston, Grant, Montavilla, Peninsula, Pier, Sellwood and Wilson.

The indoor (Buckman, Columbia, Dishman, East Portland, Mt. Scott, Southwest) pools are already open.

All of the Parks & Recreation pools offer play swims, water exercise classes, junior lifeguard training, junior swim training, summer swim teams and special events.
