Several people from Portland and Tigard were involved in an Iowa automobile accident that killed one man and injured seven others, including three children.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident happened Sunday just before 8:30 a.m. Central Time on I-80 near milemarker 272 in Cedar County.
The Ford Expedition was westbound when the rear tire deflated. When the rear tire lost pressure, the SUV went out of control and rolled several times, landing on the guard rail of the inside lanes on the other side of the highway.
According to the state patrol, Ivon Carina Barajas Orozco, 21, died at the scene.
The driver was 29-year-old Maria Isabel Barajas Ballines of Tigard. The other passengers were Heriberto Barajas Ballines, 28, from Portland; Gracielas Barajas Ballines, 32, from Portland; Maria E. Barajas, 52, from Tigard; Alondra Nieves, 7, from Portland; Jahziel Barajas, 2, from Portland; and Eric Barajas, 3, from Portland.
All were taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
All were wearing their seatbelts, investigators said.
No other information was available.
