Multnomah County’s library system will host a public celebration of its expanded funding and operating hours on Monday, July 1, on the steps of the Central Library at Southwest 10th Avenue and Taylor Street.

The event will take place fittingly on a Monday, as the system has been closed on that day for the past year, and will begin operating Mondays starting July 1.

The public is welcome to gather at 9:45 a.m. for free cookies supplied by Grand Central Bakery and The Library Foundation, and remarks from county commissioners. A special treat will be a new poem read by Kim Stafford, written by him especially for the library system.
