Memorial will lay 'Baby Precious' to rest
As Portland homicide detectives press their investigation into the death of newborn baby Precious, whose body was found in late May at a North Portland recycling center, a memorial celebration is planned Friday morning in Northeast Portland.
The celebration is at 11 a.m. at Maranatha Church, 4222 N.E. 12th Ave. An internment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, 0300 S.W. Taylors Ferry Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations of new baby items or diapers are requested.
According to Portland police, Crime Stoppers has received several tips about the case, but none of has led to identification of the babys mother or how the baby came to be at the recycling center.
The investigation started when the babys body was discovered May 28 at 8:33 a.m., at EFI Recycling, 4325 N. Commerce St. The baby was an African American or mixed-race girl with the umbilical cord still attached.
The Medical Examiner has ruled the baby's death as a homicide. The child had been born just days before her body was discovered.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that helps resolve the case.
